The symbol of the Lotus flower was prominent in Ancient Afrika 'Kemit' (Egypt) iconography where it is denoted as a symbol of rebirth. The roots of the Lotus flower remain in the mud at the bottom of the water, the stem finds its way through the murky waters, it eventually reaches the surface were it has the potential to blossom from sunlight.
As Blacks – New Afrikans, the Lotus flower is a relevant symbol reflecting our muddy experience of racist white supremacy – national oppression in America. As New Afrikans our muddy waters have been enslavement (domestic colonialism), lynching, forced separation, second-class citizens, persecution, etc. Moreover our muddy waters is internalized oppression of self-defeating and self-destructive beliefs and values; muddy psychic waters of shame, low self-esteem, inferiority complex, and self-hatred.
The Lotus flower symbolizes the internal struggle of New Afrikan consciousness development and our external quest to blossom self-determination, Land & Independence. As New Afrikans We strive to be an embodiment of the New Afrikan Creed through personal development and spiritual growth. Our responsibility as conscious New Afrikans is to blossom like the Lotus flower by the 'Creed's' radiance becoming a 'Bridge' over the troubled muddy waters of national oppression.
As New Afrikans part of our spiritual growth should be daily meditation with visualization; We should visualize by identifying ourselves with the Lotus flower; visualizing We are the Lotus by 'imagery internalization' taking the whole flowering transformation process internally. Visualizing that each of the Lotus petals represents both one of our Freedom Fighting Ancestors and the best character traits which are always within us; and that We can get in touch with them and draw on their energy examples and qualities whenever We choose.
Reflecting spiritually the same Ultimate Creative Life-Force that animates the universe and has created the Lotus flower is enabling us to awaken and develop our innermost being and all that radiates from it.
